Town Tuition Initiative

GSA is deeply grateful for the support we receive from our sending towns.

For the past four years, voters in our peninsula towns have approved paying GSA supplemental tuition for students who attend GSA. This supplemental tuition helps defray the actual costs of providing the all-encompassing education that peninsula students want and that they need for those next steps beyond high school.

This year the Board of Trustees committed to decreasing the supplemental tuition by 10% for each of the following three years.  The supplemental tuition for the 2026-2027 school year is $1,530. Increased Maximum Allowable Tuition (MAT), enrollment numbers, and fundraising dollars are making this possible.

Here are details you need to vote for the Supplemental Tuition:

Brooksville: Thank you Brooksville residents for voting to approve our request for supplemental tuition!

Penobscot: Thank you to the Penobscot residents who supported the GSA students in your community!

Sedgwick: Thank you Sedgwick residents for voting to approve our request for supplemental tuition!

Blue Hill: April 3, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. – @ Blue Hill Town Hall (referendum)

Brooklin: April 25, 9 a.m. (new date) – Brooklin School gym (town meeting warrant article, part of school board budget)

Surry: April 10, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. – @ Surry Town Office (referendum)

Castine: May 9, 8:30 a.m. – @ Emerson Hall (town meeting warrant article, part of school board budget)

LOCAL STUDENTS

  • GSA admits all qualified students from our peninsula’s sending towns—Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Castine, Penobscot, Sedgwick, and Surry—who can benefit from our programs and would like to be part of a vibrant learning community. We encourage every high school-aged student from these towns to explore GSA’s traditional and nontraditional academic programs; our athletics, arts, and other extracurricular activities; as well as our small and inclusive school community, and to consider enrolling.

  • Any resident in a town without its own high school is encouraged to apply to GSA. This includes the towns of Orland, Otis, Franklin, Hancock, and Trenton. Tuition for these families above what the town pays is the amount the Board sets per year. Please see Our Financial Commitment to Financial Assistance below.

  • Residents of towns without school choice may still attend George Stevens Academy. The full tuition for these students is the responsibility of their parents/guardians.

  • We are committed to working closely with every prospective and current family to make attending GSA possible. We work with each family to create a payment plan that fits the needs of each family.
