Biography

Norm Bergeron is from Sanford, Maine, a small working class town that, a couple of generations before, was the childhood home of Vic Firth, famed Boston Symphony Orchestra percussionist/educator/businessman. Norm was a born sound dabbler and conduit of rhythmic ideas. His most vivid early childhood memory is of sitting between the washer and dryer in his parent’s basement matching pitch with the one and tapping out the inherent rhythm of the other. He is a first gen college grad who grew up poor and on the wrong side of the tracks but was fortunate to have supportive family, teachers, and mentors. Choosing flow instead of the uphill battle led Norm to the University of North Texas where he earned a BA in Jazz Studies and an MS in Ethnomusicology, Anthropology, and Documentary Film while performing on stages and in studios all over the world. Trusting the process and the flow lead to his friendship/partnership/marriage of almost 30 years, a career doing what he loves and is pretty good at, two amazing children, and a life he couldn’t have imagined as that lil kid in the cold wet basement by the laundry machines.
