Chrissy Allen holds a yearbook with a 1959 GSA graduate who designed the 1959 Mountain Echo yearbook. She went on to attend art school after graduation!

GSA ATTENDS MAINE YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Asa Alley-Neblett, Corwin Allen, and Cody Chattin attended the Maine Youth Leadership Conference at the University of Southern Maine this weekend.

Since 1980, Maine Youth Leadership (MYL) has worked with Maine youth to seek out, recognize, and develop their leadership skills. Our goal is to motivate Maine’s future leaders and create a network of civic-minded students who will better their communities through volunteering. Our programs encourage and assist students at critical times in their quest for self-identification and development and we provide give-and-take discussions with thought leaders and role models from across Maine.

THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ANDY COLLIER ‘98 MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

On Saturday, the annual Andy Collier ‘98 Memorial Golf Tournament was held in Castine, and it was another successful event. This year, it was part of our Alumni Sports Weekend followed by an Alumni Happy Hour at Devil’s Half Acre.

Ages: K–7th Grade

Players will build soccer skills, teamwork, and confidence in a fun and active environment led by Acadia Fire coaches.

Soaring Eagles Summer Basketball Clinic

Led by GSA Coaches and Players

Dates: June 29 – July 2
Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Grades: Entering 3rd–7th grade
Cost: $60

This clinic focuses on skill development, fun competitions, and games for young athletes looking to improve and have fun on the court this summer.

Girls Volleyball Clinic

Led by GSA Coaches and Players

Location: BHCS Field
Dates: Mondays & Wednesdays — June 22, 24, 29 & July 1
Time: 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Grades: Incoming 5th–8th grade
Cost: $20 total

Players will work on serving, passing, hitting, teamwork, and fundamentals through fun games and competitions. All skill levels are welcome!

GSA Summer Baseball Camp

Led by Coach Dan Kane and the GSA Baseball Staff

Dates: Monday–Friday, July 13–17
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM daily
Ages: 9–12 years old
Cost: $100 per athlete

Campers will work on hitting, fielding, pitching, base running, and game situations while developing skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Summer Youth Track Program

A fun summer track and field program for athletes across the Blue Hill Peninsula, including opportunities to compete in USATF meets throughout Maine.

First Practice: Tuesday, June 23
Practice Times: Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM at BHCS
First Meet: Thursday, July 2
Meet Schedule: Thursdays, July 2–23 (Bangor area)
State Championship Meet: Saturday, August 8
Cost: $90 for the season (+ separate USATF membership fee for meet participants)

Events include sprints, distance races, relays, long jump, high jump, shot put, turbo javelin, and more.

Down East Family YMCA Summer Camp at GSA

Hosted at George Stevens Academy from 7am-4pm, Monday-Friday from June 24th through August 21st for 1st-8th graders.

The YMCA Summer Camp at GSA offers daily adventures, games, field trips, water fun, and opportunities for kids to make new friends all summer long.

THE EAGLE’S NEST- Alumni Corner

The Alumni Banquet will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the GSA Cafeteria.

Graduating GSA seniors may attend dinner at no charge. Additional family members and guests are welcome to attend for a fee of $15.00 per person. Families who wish to sponsor a senior dinner may also do so for $15.00.

Please note: Any senior who has applied for the Alumni Book Award must be present at the banquet to receive the award.

DRIVER’S ED INFO:

Driver’s Education Information

**Please note that the cost has gone up from $555 to $585 To offset rising prices of gas, maintenance and insurance.**

To register, please call Julie or Dan at Driver’s Edge at (207) 356-9833 to sign up and receive the necessary paperwork.

The course fee is $585 and does not include the permit test. The permit test costs $39.95 for AAA members and $49.95 for non-members.

Registration is first-come, first-served, so early sign-up is encouraged.

Orientation will be held in the Library. A parent or guardian must be present for orientation. Classes will take place in Ms. Richards’ Room (Room 162).

Schedule:

June 15 – Orientation: 5:30–7:00 PM
June 16 – Class 1: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
June 17 – Class 2: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
July 27 – Permit Test: 9:00–11:00 AM

Parking Notice:

Please park in the lot by the old store (Merrill and Hinckley’s) for orientation and all Driver’s Ed classes. Construction will be taking place near the gym, and that area must remain clear of pedestrians. Thank you!
