First ISIP week is a wrap!

Juno Holbe ‘27 is spending her ISIP with Representative Nina Milliken at the Maine State House learning about Maine politics and the American democratic process. Juno is a German student.

Taylor Grego ‘27 is at Variable Movement in Maine learning about maintaining athletic fitness with Bob St. Peter, a fitness coach.

ISIP has long been a capstone feature of a GSA education. For the two weeks after February education, all juniors and seniors will be engaged in an Independent Study or Internship Project that they have built themselves. Some students will be shadowing potential careers, others will be doing intensive art, music and writing, one will be shadowing in state government, one will be exploring our judicial system in a public defender's office, and another will be building a scallop drag.

Any and all are invited to the ISIP Exhibition where students will be eagerly sharing (yes, every one of them!) about what they did.

WAY TO GO, KILEY!

Kiley Parker is a ninth grader at GSA who already has 36 hours of community service working at the Tree of Life Food Pantry, GSA Step Up Day, and the Blue Hill Tree Lighting.

Kiley is pursuing the Gold Award in Girl Scouts- the highest honor one can receive as a Girl Scout. Kiley must create a lasting, sustainable, and measurable change on her community to earn the Gold Award. What is Kiley’s project? After working at the Tree of Life, Kiley realized that students and families couldn’t always pick up during the Tree of Life’s hours (They are a volunteer-led organization, so they aren’t open every day.). Her Gold Award project is to create a food pantry at GSA while also educating peers about eating disorders. Wow!

Kiley had this to say about her experience so far:

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to go to the food pantry each day.”
and re: Step Up Day representing the French program:
“It was hard on my brain, but I liked it. It was really fun. I’ve never spoken so much French before. It was a good practice.”

We’re so proud of you, Kiley!

GSA RECEIVES HEALTHY PENINSULA SCHOOL GREENHOUSE AND GARDEN AWARD

Andrea Lopez and Steve Whitney teamed up to apply for this grant to benefit GSA, and the school was awarded funds to help with community gardening.

Thanks to Andrea and Steve for their hard work, and to Healthy Peninsula for the support!

DRIVERS ED INFO:

Call Julie or Dan at Driver's Edge at (207) 356-9833 to sign up and receive paperwork.
Cost is $555 before the permit test. The permit test will cost an additional $39.95 for AAA members, or $49.95 for non-AAA members.  Sign-up is first-come, first-served. Orientation will be in the Cafeteria, and classes will be in a classroom to be announced.

March 9th: Orientation, 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. A guardian must be present for orientation.

March 10th: Class One, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

March 11th: Class Two, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Permit test date TBD
