MATH TEAM WINS FIRST IN DIVISION AND SECOND IN THE STATE!

Last Tuesday, GSA’s Math Team competed at the State Math Meet. They placed first in their division, Class D, for the regular season and second at the meet!

STUDENT JAZZ CONCERT IN ELLSWORTH BRINGS A GREAT TURNOUT!

GSA students Cody Chattin (who facilitated the event), Bailey Townsend, Fox Sweimler, and Eddie Knights (who jumped in on pan) played as the Crispy Chicken Jazz Combo along with community musician Chris Pirsos. The event took place on Friday night in Ellsworth at St. Dunsten’s Episcopal Church.

ACADEMIC NEWS

COLLEGE COURSE- SUMMER & FALL- REGISTRATION

University of Maine (and community college system) registration for fall courses for high school students is now open.

Registration for summer courses is also still open.

Interested students should look at the information on GSA Students in Canvas for information, and follow the links to set up an account with ExplorEC (UMaine), OnCourse (community colleges) or with Husson University (ECAP) and then start looking for courses.

Interested students should meet with Mr. Stearns after vacation as needed for information and advice. All of these online courses are tuition-free for high school students, although they might require the purchase of a textbook.

We are in need of scrap fabric! It can be any size, any condition, cut up in weird shapes, etc. We need it for an Arts Fest project!

Send/bring to school or drop off to the front office.

A note first: The Locker Room Hallway is GSA's monthly(ish) student paper, and this issue is a good one to start with. Inside is a short story about a snow globe that shows up without a return address, a behind-the-scenes with Chef Lu about her theater life and Chinese cultural pride, a how-to on surviving April burnout (climb a tree, leave your phone on the ground), a review of Redveil's Sankofa, the 3,000-year-old Persian origins of spring cleaning, and a crossword featuring alewives and lupines. It's funny, thoughtful, and a little weird in the best way. If you want to know what GSA students are actually thinking about, read it. Maybe I’m biased, but I think it’s a great peek into what makes GSA extra special.

AP ENVIRO SCIENCE CONDUCTS FIELD WORK IN THE MILL STREAM

The AP Environmental Science class went to the Mill Stream this week to complete their stream monitoring lab. Part of the lab was to collect and identify macroinvertebrates in order to use the Pollution Tolerance Index to classify the stream. Field work like this is an important part of the scientific literacy we build here at GSA.

DRIVER’S ED INFO:

To register, please call Julie or Dan at Driver’s Edge at (207) 356-9833 to sign up and receive the necessary paperwork.

The course fee is $555 and does not include the permit test. The permit test costs $39.95 for AAA members and $49.95 for non-members.

Registration is first-come, first-served, so early sign-up is encouraged.

Orientation will be held in the Library. A parent or guardian must be present for orientation. Classes will take place in Ms. Richards’ Room (Room 162).

Schedule:

June 15 – Orientation: 5:30–7:00 PM
June 16 – Class 1: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
June 17 – Class 2: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
July 27 – Permit Test: 9:00–11:00 AM
