GSA has had members participating as a swim team for at least the last ten years and competing at both the PVC and state championships meets. In the 2010/2011 season, GSA started off with 15 students participating. This included several who went to the PVC and State Class B Championship. GSA also had a designated All American Academic Swimmer for the 2010/11 season as awarded by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association. Since the 2013-14 school year, GSA had its own swimming coach, Don Driscoll.
The team holds daily practices at Maine Maritime Academy. GSA home meets are at the Ellsworth YMCA. In the fall of 2018, ground was broken on a YMCA complex that will include a swimming pool. Construction delays mean that facility will not be available to us this season, but we look forward to the day when we can practice and host home meets less than a mile from campus.
