The GSA Band plays for the crowds at varsity basketball games, in our annual Holiday Concert, at the Wreaths Across America ceremony in Ellsworth, in MMEA competition, at the annual Spring Concerts, in Blue Hill's Memorial Day parade, and at other school events. Band members who are not yet graduating play at commencement every year. Steve Orlofsky directs the band.
The GSA Jazz Band plays at the Blue Hill Fair every year, in our annual Holiday Concert, at varsity basketball games, in instrumental jazz competition, at our annual Spring Concerts, and at other school events.
One or more of the GSA jazz combos perform at the Holiday Concert in early December, in instrumental jazz competition, at our ninth-grade preview day, at the annual Spring Concerts every May, at Senior Class Night, at the Blue Hill Pops Concert dinner in July, and at the Deer Isle Jazz Festival in August. Steve Orlofsky and Fiona Schubeck each direct jazz combos.
Planet Pan Steel Band, a community steel band that includes GSA students, performs at the Holiday Concert, at our ninth-grade preview day, at our annual Spring Concerts, and at other school events. The band is sometimes joined in performance by our Steel Band classes. Planet Pan also performs and teaches around the state, including at this winter's national tobboggan championships in Camden. Fiona Schubeck, who teaches Steel Band classes at GSA, directs Planet Pan.
