GSA Musical Events
GSA's Jazz Band plays at the Blue Hill Fair every year under Steve Orlofsky's direction. This year's 25th consecutive performance took place on the Grandstage Stage on Sept. 1 at noon.
The 2018-2019 GSA Jazz Band is Courtney Bianco, alto sax I, senior; Erika Hipsky, alto sax I, junior; Margaret Nevin, alto sax II, sophomore; LeeAnn Varnum, tenor sax I, senior; Hannah Dyer, tenor sax II, sophomore; Ian Howell, baritone sax, junior; Meredith Bradshaw Thomas, trumpet I, senior; Danielle Bianco, trumpet I, senior; Dawsen Astbury, trumpet II, junior; Gabe Hall, trumpet III, freshmen; Cody Haolin Yang, trumpet IV, senior; Duncan Howell, trombone I, junior; Susanna Jakub, trombone II, senior; Adam Mathewson, trombone III, sophomore; Rachel Whitmore, trombone IV, sophomore; Elana Williamson, vibes, senior; Tess Williamson, piano, senior; Juliette Claybaugh, piano, sophomore; Quinn Stabler, bass, junior; and Edward Conte, drums, senior.
The Holiday Concert in early December is an annual performance for the public at the school by the GSA Band, the GSA Jazz Band, combos, the Planet Pan Steel Band and others.
Planet Pan Steel Band is a community steel band directed by Fiona Schubeck, who teaches Steel Band classes at GSA. In addition to performing at the school in the Holiday Concert and at other school events, the band performs and teaches around the state.
Steve Orlofsky teaches music at George Stevens Academy and directs the GSA Band, GSA Jazz Band, and GSA Jazz Combos.
Fiona Schubeck teaches steel band at George Stevens Academy. She directs those classes in performances in addition to directing Planet Pan Steel Band.
