• Collier Tourney Generates Fun, Funds

Thirty-nine golfers hit the links in the 2021 Andy Collier ’98 Invitational Golf Tournament at the Castine Golf Club on Sunday, June 6.

“Being able to get together in memory of our friend and teammate Andy while raising money for athletics at George Stevens makes this day so enjoyable,” said Erik Fitch ’99, who organized the event with Andy’s brother Peter Collier ’00.

The tournament was an 18-hole scramble, and there were contests on every hole, for example, longest putt made, closest to the pin, closest to the inflatable whale, and the marshmallow driving contest.

“A golf tournament that provides Frank’s Bakery donuts, on-course milkshakes, and a marshmallow driving contest can’t be beat,” one golfer said.

This year’s tournament champions are Peter Collier ’00, Noah Tapley ’02, Zach Davies ’00, and Nick Malinowski ’98. Each winner received a special plate created and donated by Rackliffe Pottery in Blue Hill.

The goal of the event was to involve former student athletes and others in generating financial support for George Stevens Academy’s athletics programs through the GSA Sports Alumni Fund. The fund was established in 2019 by Erik and Peter, who are two members of the board that oversees the fund and organized the event. The other members are Amanda Ashe ’00, Toby Cole ’00, and Simeon Allen ’01.

The organizers would like to thank the staff at The Castine Golf Club for their help with the tournament

They are grateful to volunteers Janis Fitch, Meghan Ruhlin-Fitch, Daphne Fitch, Phoebe Fitch, and Kim Fitch.

And they would like to give “special thanks to our sponsors and individuals making financial contributions to the GSA Sports Alumni Fund.”

The tournament’s lead sponsor was the Lyman Agency. Major sponsors were the Merle B. Grindle Agency, Blue Ledge Carpentry, and Rackliffe Pottery.
