Eighty members of the Class of 2024 convened for ninth-grade orientation today. There were no outdoor icebreaker activities as we usually have, no staff introductions or class assemblies.
Instead, our young Eagles joined their advisors for tours of the campus; received their laptops; were introduced to our new learning management software; learned about our health and safety protocols; practiced mask-wearing, hand-sanitizing, and social distancing; and got advice from members of the Student Council on how to make the best of their ninth-grade year.
This is an extraordinary start to the school year, but human beings are a remarkably adaptable species, and what seems strange to us today will seem more familiar and comfortable soon enough, and we will be able to focus on what we're really here for: to learn. And we will do it together.
