{Basketball} Basketball

The George Stevens Academy basketball program is divided into three levels: freshman, JV and varsity. Both boys and girls freshman teams participate in the Eastern Maine Freshmen League. Each team plays at least sixteen games and competes in a tournament at the end of the season. There are fifteen positions on the freshman teams. Our JV team is made up primarily of sophomores. Juniors and freshmen compete at this level according to their skill. The varsity level consists of our best players. Each JV and varsity team plays an eighteen game schedule. Varsity and JV teams play a mixture of class B and C teams with one D team. Freshman teams play a mixture of Class A, B, and C schools.

Indoor Track

Indoor track is open to all students, and all who try out participate at all of the meets. We are a member of the PVC Eastern Maine Indoor Track League and compete in up to nine meets at the University of Maine Field house. We also practice at the University of Maine several times during the University's vacation. We compete in class B.  INDOOR TRACK WILL NOT BE OFFERED AS A TEAM ACTIVITY FOR THE 2009-2010 SEASON.

Wrestling

Wrestling is a sport that anyone may participate in, provided they satisfy the five requirements for athletic eligibility. There are no cuts made for wrestling, which means that everyone who tries out makes the team. Everyone may not wrestle in every meet, however, because of the different weight classes, which allow for only one wrestler per weight class per match. Wrestling is a bonding experience that develops self-confidence, teamwork, camaraderie, and self-discipline.

Cheering

Cheering utilizes gymnastics and dance to help enhance school spirit. The cheerleaders also compete in at least two competitions during the winter sports season.

Volleyball

Students learn volleyball through physical education classes. We hold an intramural volleyball tournament. Both students and staff participate in this tournament.
